The President of civil aviation Sheikh Salman Al- Homoud said that the construction of the third runaway project is one of the strategic projects for the development of the infrastructure of Kuwait International Airport, which contributes to increase the capacity through the establishment of a main runaway besides the reconstruction and modernization of the eastern runway regarding the development of the airport.In fact, Al-Homoud mentioned during his sponsorship of the ground breaking ceremony program for the construction of the third runaway and the rehabilitation of the second runaway at Kuwait International airport. Consequently, China ambassador (Wang De) , a number of leaders, and civil aviation officials attended through. He mentioned that the project to rise the level of air traffic at Kuwait International Airport. Then, he pointed out that there is a plan to implement several projects to implement several projects to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed to make Kuwait a financial and economic center worldwide.The General Deputy Director of planning projects in the General Directorate of civil aviation, Mr. Emad Al Jalawi said, “ Today we are making the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the third runaway, the new observation tower and the rehabilitation of the eastern runaway at Kuwait International Airport.He pointed out that the project aims to increase the absorptive and operational capacity of the private air traffic and commercial air transport in the country, pointing out that this vital project will provide the possibility to receive all types of aircraft, including the new generation of large aircraft. It will enhance the capacity of the airport of Kuwait from 45,000 to 650,000 a yearly takeoff and landing.Then, he pointed out that this vital project includes a series of components, the most important of which is the construction of a new control tower equipped with four main systems, namely the reader system, the automated control system, the communication system, and the guiding management system. Furthermore, the construction of corridors for aircraft and the development of a special tunnel to link the new cargo city to the new passenger city (T2) as well as infrastructure services.Additionally, he pointed out that the General Administration of civil aviation has adopted an ambitious plan to develop and modernize the infrastructure of Kuwait International Airport at all levels, especially as work is now underway to complete to completion of (T4) building in the mid of 2018 hoping all concerted efforts to governmental bodies and control to overcome obstacles and challenges facing the operation of the project before summer season in order to reduce the pressure on the current airport building.The construction work is ongoing and in the new T2 building, which is design according to the latest international airports in terms of advanced system, technologies, services, and excellence in the global levels in security and safety. He thanked the ministry of works for their great efforts in this vital project, and the main contractor who has shown a clear commitment to project schedule hoping that the main project contractor (avic) project completion of the project according to strengthen the infrastructure and technical Kuwait Airport. Increasing the airport capacity:The CEO Mr. Jamal Al Houti said that the third package project comes within the plan of development of Kuwait International Airport in terms of numbers of passengers, aircraft, and upgrading the efficiency of system and services provided by aircraft to accommodate the development of air traffic and reception of giant aircraft additionally to the implementation of open skies policy.He said that the new terminal will accommodate about 13 million passenger a year with the potential to expand to 25 million passengers that helps to make it a regional hub in the Gulf area.Consequently, he added that this project is one of the vital projects that includes the design and construction of the new runaway and re- establishment of the Eastern air control tower and parallel corridors to access roads and related infrastructure at Kuwait Airport.He finally, added that the project has a great importance as it falls within the vision of Kuwait 2035, which aims to enabling Kuwait to become an economic region in accordance with supreme directives.
