H.E. President of Civil Aviation: We are exerting double efforts to enhance passengers’ security and safety
H.E. President of Civil Aviation - Sheikh Salman Al-Homoud Al- Sabah said that the government authorities in Kuwait are exerting double efforts in the domain of aviation security to enhance the passengers’ security and safety. In a speech to the 1 st Meeting of the International Civil Aviation Security & Facilitation Group for Middle East, hosted by Kuwait for three days, Sheikh Salman said that the “Civil Aviation” has taken several necessary measures to enhance aviation security. He explained that such measures included forming the National Committee for Aviation Security & Facilitation, headed by the Directorate of Civil Aviation and membership of senior officials representing the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Finance as well as the General Department for Customs and the Department of Fire Services, in addition to specialists in this domain. Sheikh Salman pointed out the establishment of two departments to handle aviation security affairs, namely the Civil Aviation Security Department under the Air-Safety & Air-Transport Sector and the Security Supervisory Department under the Kuwait International Airport Sector. He stated that such measures give the security priority high degree of attention and care as well as implementing the security procedures in accordance with international standards at airports, in addition to qualifying national personnel having competence in the domain of aviation security. He praised the role of Kuwait Ministry of Interior in developing many security aspects at Kuwait International Airport, and also the roles of the General Department for Customs as well as the other companies operating in passengers’ facilitation functions. As regards the meeting hosted by the Kuwait in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Sheikh Salman stated that it comes from Kuwait's full belief in the importance of supporting international institutions and organizations specialized in the civil aviation sector. Sheikh Salman added that the meeting aims to reinforce the principles of mutual collaboration and exchange of expertise to upgrade the security system at the airports and raise the efficiency of aviation security infrastructure. He pointed to the participation of an elite group of experts and specialists in the domain of aviation security in the meeting, explaining that it is a genuine opportunity to develop and exchange expertise in the security aspects. He expressed his hope for the meeting to succeed in following up the recommendations of the Riyadh Document, the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization, and the Dubai Cyber Security Document. For his part, the Regional Manager of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for Middle East office - Mr. Mohammed Rahma, said in a similar speech that “All constituents operating at the Arabian airports and the Middle East region need to work hard and jointly to achieve highest levels of security and safety in the aviation sector.
